Instructions for paying self-assessed taxes
Self-assessed taxes are taxes that you need to file and pay at your own initiative. You will not receive a bank transfer form or any kind of invoice to pay.
Self-assessed taxes include VAT, employer’s contributions, excise duties and pharmacy tax, for example.
How to pay
You can pay self-assessed taxes in MyTax or in your e-bank, for example.
When you pay in MyTax, all the required payment details will be automatically included. Your payment will be charged from your bank account immediately, so you cannot edit or change the date. How to pay in MyTax:
Here is how to use MyTax to send payments, if you are an individual, a self-employed operator of trade or business, or an operator of agriculture and forestry:
-
Go to Payment status on the home page and click Paying taxes and payment details.
-
You can proceed to pay a tax by clicking the link at the tax in question.

-
Go to Payment status on the home page and click Paying taxes and payment details.

Corporate taxpayers use the single general reference number for taxes in their tax payments. Go to Making payments using the general reference number for taxes and select the Pay taxes link.

The payment will show in the balance specification in MyTax in 1–2 business days.

Due date
The general due date for self-assessed taxes is the 12th of the month. When the due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday or a public holiday, you can pay the tax on the next business day.
Remember to file a tax return before you pay the tax. Check the payment instructions and due dates in the instructions on the tax type in question.

If you pay late
If you pay a self-assessed tax after the due date, you will need to pay late-payment interest in addition to the tax. In 2025, the late-payment interest is 11.5%. The interest accrues from the day after the due date until the date of payment. Read more about late-payment interest.
Pay the late-payment interest together with the overdue tax. When you pay in MyTax, the late-payment interest is included in the payment amount. If you pay the tax elsewhere, check the correct amount including interest in MyTax or calculate the amount of interest yourself using the interest calculator.
More time to pay?
If you need an extension and smaller instalments to be able to pay the tax, you can request a payment arrangement. You must pay late-payment interest for the extension period. Taxes included in a payment arrangement will not be sent to enforcement if you adhere to the conditions of the arrangement.
