Do you pay taxes in e-bank? Starting on 9 October 2025, banks will check the payment recipient’s name
News, 10/9/2025Making payments in the e-bank will change on Thursday, 9 October 2025, when banks start checking that the payment recipient’s name is correct.
When you make a new payment in your e-bank, you will be notified whether the payment recipient’s name matches with the account number you have entered. The notification will state whether the recipient’s name is the same as the account holder’s name, or partly the same, or not the same at all. The way the notification is implemented depends on the bank.
The change is based on the EU’s Instant Payments Regulation. The purpose of the regulation is to improve the safety of online payments. Read more about the change on the website of Finance Finland.
Use the Tax Administration’s official name when you pay
When you pay taxes in your e-bank, enter the Tax Administration’s official Finnish name, i.e. Verohallinto, as the payment recipient. If you use another version of the name, you may receive a notification saying that the name matches only in part or not at all.
The Tax Administration has two bank accounts to which taxpayers can pay taxes: one in Nordea and the other in Danske Bank. If you pay taxes to the account in Danske Bank, the payment recipient can be Skatteförvaltningen or Finnish Tax Administration, as well as Verohallinto.
If you pay taxes to the account in Nordea, the recipient’s name must be in Finnish: Verohallinto. If you use another version of the name, you will receive a notification saying that the name does not match with the name of the account holder.
What to do if the name does not match
You can pay your taxes to the Tax Administration’s bank account in your e-bank even if you receive a notification saying that the name does not match with the information the bank has. Do as follows:
- Make sure the account number you use is the number of the Tax Administration’s bank account. You can check the bank account number in MyTax or in the tax decision you have received.
- If the number is correct, accept the payment as usual. Your payment will be assigned to the correct recipient based on the account number. Note, however, that you always have responsibility for the payment.
Alternatively, you can use another payment method
In addition to making an online payment in the e-bank, you can pay taxes in MyTax or by using the e-invoice. For corporate taxpayers, the web invoice is also available.
When you make a payment in MyTax or by using the e-invoice or web invoice, you do not need to enter the payment recipient’s name or other payment details yourself. Paying is quick, easy and safe.
