Mail from the Tax Administration only electronically next year

News, 10/23/2025

Starting in 2026, letters from the Tax Administration and other authorities will be delivered only in electronic format to all those who use e-services, such as MyTax. Letters will be delivered on paper only to those who do not use e-services.

Suomi.fi Messages will replace paper letters on 12 January 2026. As of that date, when a person of age who has not activated Suomi.fi Messages logs in to an e-service provided by an authority, an electronic Suomi.fi mailbox will be created for them automatically. From then on, official letters, decisions and invoices will be delivered to the electronic mailbox. An exception to this is mail from the Tax Administration, which will continue to be accessible only in MyTax. However, a notification will be sent to Suomi.fi Messages when new mail arrives in MyTax.

If you have been using Suomi.fi Messages but want to start receiving paper mail again, change the mail delivery setting in Suomi.fi Messages. The setting for paper mail delivery will be valid for 6 months at a time. After that, your letters will again be sent to Suomi.fi Messages if you log in to any official e-service using Suomi.fi e-Identification.

The change does not concern people who do not identify themselves to e-services using their own identifiers but have authorised another person to act on their behalf.

If you use MyTax, you receive all your tax mail there

Starting on 12 January 2026, the Tax Administration will send mail only to MyTax to all those who use MyTax to manage their tax matters.

“We have many customers who use MyTax without a problem and yet receive paper mail from us. In other words, they have the skills and equipment to use e-services, so in future they will receive tax mail only electronically in MyTax even if they deactivate Suomi.fi messages and receive other authorities’ mail on paper,” says Joonas Jarva, Product Owner of MyTax.

When you log in, MyTax asks you to enter your email address or phone number.

“Enter the requested information to allow the Tax Administration to send you a message to your email or phone when there is new tax mail for you in MyTax. If you do not submit your contact information, you must remember to log in to MyTax regularly to see if there is any new mail for you,” says Jarva.

You can receive the Tax Administration’s mail on paper if you do not use Suomi.fi Messages and if you inform the Tax Administration that you do not use MyTax. You can inform the Tax Administration in MyTax after the change has entered into force.
