From 14 April on, when you log in to MyTax you will activate Suomi.fi Messages. Tax correspondence will be delivered electronically only, in MyTax. Read more about the changes.
Digital prioritisation: All letters electronically in 2026
Letters from the Tax Administration will be delivered in electronic format to those (age 18 and older) who log in through the e-identification on Suomi.fi to access an e-government service such as MyTax.
This will not affect minors (young people under 18), persons who never use digital services, nor persons under guardianship. They will continue to receive correspondence from public authorities by letter.
If you already have an activated Suomi.fi Messages account, you will continue to receive the correspondence there, in electronic format as before.
How and when will the letter delivery method change?
The changes will involve 2 distinct stages. If you do not have Suomi.fi Messages or electronic tax mail activated when the new law enters into force, see below how the changes will affect you:
You are an individual taxpayer or a self-employed person:
- When you use the Suomi.fi e-identification service to log in to MyTax or to another authority’s digital service on 14 April or later, you will start receiving official letters, decisions and invoices in electronic format. No duplicates will be sent on paper. It is advisable to have your email address saved in the Suomi.fi Messages system. This way, you will always receive an email notification for every letter, decision, etc. when it has arrived. However, MyTax will be the only place where you receive tax mail.
- When you log in to MyTax on 1 June or later to manage your personal tax matters, you will start receiving your tax mail only to MyTax. No duplicates will be sent on paper. The tax mail will only go to MyTax even if you had discontinued your Suomi.fi Messages. Please add your email address or phone number to your personal details in MyTax to receive notifications whenever a new letter, decision, etc. has arrived in MyTax for you.
Guidance for individual taxpayers
You are a corporate entity, an association, a joint-benefit administration, partnership or a decedent’s estate with a Business ID:
- When an employee or a representative of the above logs in to MyTax as of 1 June, the corporate entity, association, etc. that they represent starts receiving the Tax Administration’s letters and decisions in electronic format only. A notification will be sent by email if an email address is saved in the MyTax account of the corporate entity, association, etc. If no email address for notifications is submitted, you must keep an eye on new tax mail yourself.
- If electronic tax mail is already enabled, your corporate entity, association, etc. will continue to receive letters and decisions electronically in MyTax as before.
Guidance for business and corporate taxpayers
You are a professional accountant or other representative of a client, principal, etc.:
When you use Suomi.fi e-identification to log in to MyTax or to another authority’s digital service on 14 April or later, you will start receiving correspondence – addressed to you personally – from public authorities in electronic format. This change will take place upon login even if you are dealing with your client’s or principal’s taxes, etc. as their representative. It is advisable to have your email address saved in the Suomi.fi Messages system. This way, you will always receive an email notification for every letter, decision, etc. when it has arrived. However, MyTax will be the only place where you receive tax mail.
The fact that you had logged in using Suomi.fi has no impact on the forthcoming deliveries of official correspondence to your client or principal.
If you are unable to receive letters electronically
You will continue to receive letters from the Tax Administration and other authorities on paper if you do not log in to any electronic service provided by the Finnish public authorities. For a temporary period, you can also cancel the electronic delivery setting and go back to paper-based delivery. For more information, see: Stop using Suomi.fi Messages (Suomi.fi).
Further information
The above changes are based on the newly adopted general legislation relating to public authorities and on supplementary legal acts on official communication by the Tax Administration.
The objective is to improve the information security of the correspondence, to make sure of rapid deliveries of letters regardless of the recipient’s location, and to help citizens store their important letters in one place.
The new legal acts will enter into force on 14 April 2026.
