Starting in June, tax mail will be sent to all MyTax users electronically

News, 5/4/2026

Starting on 1 June, individual taxpayers using MyTax will receive their tax mail electronically in MyTax only.

Delivery of official mail changed in April: starting on 14 April 2026, authorities have been sending mail to individuals mainly electronically through Suomi.fi Messages. At the beginning of June, the Tax Administration stops sending letters by letter post to taxpayers who manage their taxes in MyTax. The change also applies to self-employed individuals, i.e. business name entrepreneurs and agricultural operators.

Did you deactivate Suomi.fi messages? If you use MyTax, you receive your tax mail only electronically.

If you have deactivated Suomi.fi messages after the entry into force of the law but log in to MyTax on or after 1 June 2026, you will start receiving tax mail from the Tax Administration electronically. After that, you will receive your tax mail in MyTax only, i.e. you will not be sent tax mail on paper. However, you will still receive your other official mail on paper.

If you use Suomi.fi messages, you can also request electronic tax mail

If you have not yet activated Suomi.fi messages, they will be activated for you when you log in to MyTax or another authority’s e-service. A notification about the activation of the messages will be shown in MyTax. In addition to Suomi.fi messages, you can also opt to receive electronic tax mail voluntarily.

A notification about new tax mail can also be sent by text message

MyTax guides you to submit your email address or phone number. The Tax Administration will send you an email notification or a text message when there is new tax mail for you in MyTax. In addition to your own contact information, you can also submit email addresses of any other persons that you want to be notified of your tax mail.

Joonas Jarva, MyTax Product Owner, wishes to remind all that submitting contact information and keeping it up to date is very important.
“You should submit at least one email address to make sure you do not overlook taxes imposed or information requests sent to you,” says Jarva.
“Also remember to keep the contact information up to date. So if the email address changes, remember to update it to MyTax.

Email addresses and phone numbers can be updated on the Taxpayer details tab in MyTax.

If you select tax mail on paper, the selection is valid for 60 days

You can select in MyTax to receive tax mail on paper. The selection is valid for 60 days During the period, you can use MyTax without activating electronic tax mail. When you log in to MyTax after the 60-day period, you will start receiving your tax mail electronically again. If you do not log in to MyTax after the period has expired, you will continue to receive your tax mail on paper.
