First tax cards for next year appear in MyTax on Saturday – paper tax cards available to MyTax users for the last time

Tax Administration Bulletin, 11/20/2025

The Tax Administration starts generating tax cards for 2026 on Friday. The first taxpayers’ tax cards will show in MyTax on Saturday, 22 November, and all tax cards will be there in mid-December at the latest.

Tax cards for 2026 will appear in MyTax starting on Saturday. The Tax Administration will generate over 5.7 million tax cards for next year.

Membership fees of unemployment funds no longer on the tax card

Changes to legislation to be introduced in 2026 will cause changes to tax cards. For example, membership fees for labour market organisations can no longer be deducted in taxation, and the standard home office deduction is no longer available to wage earners. Because of the changes, membership fees of unemployment funds are also not shown on tax cards even though they are still deductible.

“The Tax Administration was unable to make a clear distiction between the fees of the funds and those of the labour market organisations, so the membership fees of the unemployment funds were also left out,” says Senior Adviser Päivi Ylitalo from Tax Administration.

“If the income and deductions are otherwise correct on the tax card, there is no need to request a revised tax card because of the unemployment fund fees, as they seldom have any effect on the tax rate.”

However, the membership fees of unemployment funds will be taken into account in the final tax assessment for 2026: the funds will report the membership fees directly to the Tax Administration for the pre-completed tax returns of 2026.

Päivi Ylitalo also points out that the standard home office deduction will no longer be available to wage earners working from home next year.

“You cannot request the home office deduction for your tax card, for example, if you are a wage earner. If you do other than paid work at home, for example if you are an entrepreneur, you can request the home office deduction for your tax card.”

The tax card enters into effect on 1 January

The 2026 tax card will enter into effect on 1 January 2026. Most payors receive tax card details automatically from the Tax Administration through an application programming interface, but some taxpayers must still deliver the tax card to the payor themselves.

“Ask your employer or other payor how you should act. If you must deliver the tax card to the payor yourself, it is best to get it from MyTax. If you activate Suomi.fi Messages by 20 November, you will receive a notification as soon as your new tax card is available. If you wait for your tax card to arrive by letter post, it may not arrive in time for January’s wage payment,” says Päivi Ylitalo.

If the new tax card is not available when wages are paid in January, then the payor will use the tax card that was in effect at the end of 2025.

Paper tax cards available to MyTax users for the last time

This is the last year when tax cards are sent by letter post to taxpayers who use MyTax.

“If the proposed legislative amendment is passed by the Parliament, tax cards will be sent only in electronic format in future to all taxpayers who use either MyTax or other e-services provided by authorities. Starting in next year, all e-service users will therefore receive the Tax Administration’s letters and decisions only in MyTax,” says Päivi Ylitalo.

This year, around four million individual taxpayers receive tax cards by letter post to no purpose.

“The tax cards of around 2.8 million individuals are transferred automatically from the Tax Administration’s system to income payors through an application programming interface. Even if an individual is required to deliver their tax card to the payor themself, they usually do it electronically. So most recipients have no use for the paper tax card,” says Ylitalo.

Revised tax cards for 2025 can be made in MyTax until 18 December. An additional prepayment can be requested for 2025 starting on 7 December.
