Options in MyTax regarding refunds were removed as of 19 August 2025
The Tax Administration now pays all refunds for VAT and other self-assessed taxes to taxpayers immediately when their tax returns have been processed.
Taxpayers can no longer change the settings for refund dates or refund limits in MyTax. This entered into force 19 August 2025.
The selections no longer available are:
- Refund after the next general due date
- Refund is saved for later use
If your setting was either "after next general due date" or "saved for later" – one of the two options no longer available – and an amount is recorded as refundable to you, the Tax Administration will automatically send you the money, i.e. your refund. You will receive the amount approximately one week from August 19. However, if our records indicate that you did not pay a certain tax by its due date, the Tax Administration will first settle the overdue tax with the money that would otherwise be refunded.

Did a paid-in amount remain unused? You can use MyTax to ask for it to be sent back
Although the Tax Administration now pays out VAT refunds and refunds of other self-assessed taxes as soon as the Tax Administration has finished processing the tax return, for getting the paid-in amount back you will still need to submit a request in MyTax.
You are entitled to submit the request, if you had made a payment and typed the reference number for self-assessed taxes, but the Tax Administration did not apply your payment to any taxes.
The money you paid in may remain unused if the amount you paid was too high. The same thing would happen if you had wanted to settle a different type of tax, but you entered your company’s reference number for self-assessment into the bank transfer by mistake.

The Tax Administration is introducing several changes to payments
This year, a number of rearrangements and improvements will make the processes of tax payments and tax refunds easier for taxpayers to manage. One of the changes concerns the thresholds and dates of refunds for self-assessed taxes. However, a further set of improvements to how business taxpayers can make payments will become available in MyTax in November 2025. The changes concern corporate taxpayers and businesses only.
